Casilda
Balmaceda Joins Winship Faculty
Jonathon Simons,
MD, Director of The Winship Cancer Institute (WCI) at Emory University,
has announced the appointment of Casilda Balmaceda, MD, as Head of Neuro-Oncology.
Dr. Balmaceda joins WCI and
Emory from Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, where she
was appointed as a neurologist for the Center for Oral, Facial and Head
Pain. Dr. Balmaceda also served as an assistant attending neurologist
for the Medical Center and an assistant professor of neurology at Columbia
University College of Physicians. In addition to being an active member
of the American Academy of Neurology and the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering
Honor Society, she serves as an investigator in several clinical trials.
Dr. Balmaceda earned her
doctoral degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
and her postdoctoral training includes a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Balmaceda is certified by the American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

a cure for cancer," said Dr. Simons.
Dr. Balmaceda has authored
or co-authored and presented more than 75 journal articles, book chapters,
abstracts and professional presentations. She currently sits on the
editorial board of Hyper Text Neurological Knowledge Base and
is a periodic reviewer of Epilepsia, Journal of Neuro-Oncology.
