Since 1991, when Emory hired its first dedicated technology licensing specialist, the Office of Technology Transfer has made dramatic strides in moving research discoveries from scientists' own laboratories into patents and licensing agreements with established companies, as well as with Emory-created start-up companies, Emory has 250 patented technologies, 85 existing licenses, and a growing number of start-up companies, five of which were founded during the past year. In fiscal year 2002 Emory realized $29.5 million in royalty income from licensed technologies. In addition to the direct financial return, Emory scientists have forged strong ties with industrial partners and licensed products that either are in use already or have excellent therapeutic potential and are currently undergoing testing through clinical trials.

The Emory Office of Technology Transfer is located in the North Decatur Building, at 1784 N. Decatur Rd., Suite 130, Atlanta GA 30322.
