Emory Healthcare Moves Forward

Emory Healthcare

Emory Healthcare, the largest, most comprehensive health care system in Georgia, includes Emory University Hospital, Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Emory University Hospital Northlake, Wesley Woods Center, The Emory Clinic, Emory-Children’s Center, the jointly owned Emory-Adventist Hospital, and EHCA.

In June 2008, Emory Crawford Long Hospital will begin its celebration of 100 years caring for Atlanta’s citizens with a series of historical tours of the hospital, as well as a new museum-quality historical exhibit that is now on display and available for preview in the hospital’s Medical Office Tower (MOT).

Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing Leads for Health

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University, which celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2005, is recognized as a leader in the preparation of nurses for beginning and advanced practice.

Dean Marla Salmon served as senior editor on the book Nurse: A World of Care, which through compelling photographs and words celebrates the vital and often invisible work of nurses around the world.

Winship Cancer Institute Research and Discovery

As a leader in cancer patient care and research, Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute (EWCI) offers new therapies not usually available outside university-affiliated medical centers, including more than 200 clinical trials for all types and stages of cancer.

Recent news: 1) Winship researchers identify signaling protein for multiple myeloma and 2) the National Cancer Institute awarded Winship a five-year, $12.5 million Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant.

Grady Health System is one of the largest public health systems in the country, managing nearly one million patient visits a year. The medical staff of Grady Memorial Hospital is composed exclusively of doctors from the Emory University and Morehouse schools of medicine who work under contract with the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority. Currently the hospital system is in dire financial straits.

The Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University has received a commitment of $50 million from the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation and Grace Crum Rollins, Emory University President James W. Wagner announced.

Atlanta Clinical Research Partnership Receives More Than $31 Million In NIH Funding

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded more than $31 million over five years — one of the largest NIH grants in Georgia history — to Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute (ACTSI), a partnership led by Emor University, of Atlanta academic, research and healthcare institutions focused on accelerating the translation of laboratory discoveries into healthcare innovations for patients.

Emory University School of Medicine recently opened its new education building -- the Emory School of Medicine Building -- to great fanfare as new and returning medical students arrived for classes.

The School of Medicine's Class of 2011 will be the first to complete the entirely new medical school curriculum -- one that is designed for the 21st century doctor.
