The Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation provides support to head and neck cancer patients; educates children and adults about the disease, treatment, and prevention of head and neck cancer; and supports ongoing research in head and neck oncology.
The Foundation began in 1984 after a pre-malignant tumor was removed from Mr. Brynner's throat. He formed the organization to educate children and adults about the dangers of smoking and to raise funds for head and neck cancer research. Mr. Brynner passed away in 1985 after recording a dramatic public service announcement about the dangers of smoking.
Since 1998, YBF has organized and directed, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, an international event designed to further the education of health professionals and the public about this disease. In 2001, the name was officially changed to Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week to help publicize oral cancer, the most common site of head and neck cancers.
The Atlanta Chapter of the YBF is organizing this year's awareness week events, which will take place in April 2006. For more information, contact: John Sandidge at 404.851.5589.
