|Emory University Hospital has been ranked one of the top hospitals in the nation for the most complete and compliant coding practices in an annual study of 3,249 hospitals.
The report, conducted by HSS, a nationally recognized company that assists healthcare providers in streamlining their coding, regulatory and reimbursement processes, ranked Emory 20th in the Major Teaching Hospitals category out of a total of 239 major hospitals. Emory was the only hospital in Georgia to be ranked in the top category, and one of only seven in the Southeast.
"This ranking is a tremendous honor and it perfectly demonstrates the dedication of our staff to quality, coding reviews and coding queries to physicians," said Jerry Beard, coding manager for Emory Hospitals. "I congratulate our team on its commitment to excellence."
Coding is the process of assigning a numerical value to identify a patient's medical and surgical conditions. This information is then provided to appropriate government agencies and insurance companies to determine coverage and payment processes. Accurate and complete coding allows hospitals to receive maximum financial reimbursement for diagnostic documentation and billing.
