The Emory University Global Health Institute was established by the President of Emory University to develop innovative research, training and programs to address the most pressing health challenges around the world, particularly in poor countries.

Jeffrey P. Koplan, MD, MPH, former director and veteran of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) heads the Emory Global Health Institute. Dr. Koplan is also the Vice President for Academic Health Affairs at Emory University's Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
