John D. Quinlivan is chief executive officer of Emory Johns Creek Hospital, which opened in February 2007 in Duluth, Ga. Before joining Emory Johns Creek, Quinlivan was chief operating officer for HCA's North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla., since 2003.

Quinlivan is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, where he was commander of the Medical Professional Recruiting Battalion in Atlanta. He began his career in health care nearly 25 years ago.

A native of Scottsboro, Ala., Quinlivan earned his master's degree in hospital administration from Baylor University, and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Alabama. He served as the vice president of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives in 2000. He has been a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives since 1999, and has served in numerous leadership roles in community and civic organizations throughout his professional career.
