Alumni awards

Award of Honor: This award is conferred upon a medical alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated distinguished service to the Medical Alumni Association, to Emory School of Medicine, to Emory University, or to the profession of medicine.

Distinguished Medical Achievement Award: This award is conferred upon a School of Medicine alumna/alumnus who has achieved distinction in research, teaching, medical practice, or administration in an academic or public institution.

Nominations for the Award of Honor and Distinguished Medical Achievement Award are due February 28, 2007, to be considered. Download a nomination form now! Papageorge
Evangeline Papageorge

Evangeline Papageorge Distinguished Teaching Award: This award is given to an Emory faculty member who, in the tradition of Dr. Papageorge, demonstrates outstanding dedication to teaching medical students. He or she should be an enthusiastic and effective teacher who not only interprets and communicates course material effectively but also has communicates and interacts well with students.

Nominations for the Papageorge Award are due March 16, 2007. The Papageorge Distinguished Teaching Award winner will be announced at the School of Medicine diploma ceremony on Monday, May 14, 2007. For nomination instructions, click here.

Career coaching

Career coaching, mentoring breakfasts and luncheons, and other career services are free to graduates through the Association of Emory Alumni.

Computer discounts

Gateway offers special discounts to Emory alumni, faculty, staff, and students. To take advantage of these discounts, simply use the Emory code (0006P11059) at any Gateway Country Store across the nation, or place your order online or by calling 800.846.2754.

Discounts are as follows: E-Series Desktops 8%; Professional/GP Series 6%; Servers 10%; Business Profiles 8%; Notebooks 8%; Performance, Select, Essential, Consumer Profiles, and Third Party Peripherals 3%. These discounts apply to Gateway's current commercial list price.

Credit Union

Alumni are eligible to become members of the Emory Credit Union, which offers mortgage, car, and computer loans.

EmoryCard

The EmoryCard replaces the blue alumni membership card as the official ID for Emory alumni. To obtain an EmoryCard, stop by the EmoryCard office in Room 270 of the Dobbs University Center (DUC) for a new photo ID. EmoryCard gives alumni access to the library, Cox Hall computer lab, and Woodruff Physical Education Center (with a paid gym membership). The cost of the EmoryCard is $5. Emory Medicine and Emory Magazine

Free to all School of Medicine alumni, Emory Medicine offers some of the best photography and writing you'll find on topics such as Emory's research into genetic disorders and our use of robots to teach surgical techniques. Also, as a graduate of Emory University, you receive a free subscription to Emory Magazine, the university's alumni publication.

Gym membership

Keep your exercise routine going or start a new one. Alumni are eligible to join the Woodruff P.E. Center, which offers tennis (indoor and out), racquetball, treadmills, elliptical motion machines and other cardiovascular equipment, an Olympic-size pool, weights, a rock climbing wall, and many other activities. Annual membership fee: $300 ($200 for graduates within the last three years). Spouses and dependent children may join at the same rates. Houston Mill House

Library and computing services

Alumni may check out books and use computing facilities in the Robert W. Woodruff Library. The alumni work-stations in the Info Commons of the library offer Euclid and other library catalogs, databases such as Galileo and Ovid, electronic journals and newspapers, Netscape, Research Central, and other resources. To access these resources, alumni must present an EmoryCard at the reference desk or at the circulation desk to receive a login ID and password, which will change each month. Additionally, alumni may access the library's online catalog at http://www.emory.edu/libraries.cfm or www.emory.edu/LIB/research. For a recorded schedule of library hours, call 404.727.6868.
