Top Nursing Home Executive Named Administrator of Emory's Budd Terrace Nursing Home

ATLANTA -- Moving forward in an industry going through change can be a challenge, but Ray Hayes is up to the task. Hayes is the newly appointed administrator of the 250-bed Budd Terrace nursing home on the campus of Wesley Woods Center.

Hayes brings more than 14 years experience to his new post, including administrator roles for Integrated Health Services of Atlanta, Athena Rehab of Clayton and Premier Associates Management Company of Orange City, Florida.

"I’m truly excited to be here and I am looking forward to being a part of the Emory Healthcare family. Budd Terrace and Wesley Woods Center has an outstanding reputation, and I jumped at the opportunity to become affiliated with an organization that I believe to be the best in the field."

And, 'the best' is a word pinned on Hayes, as well. "I have full confidence in Ray’s abilities to lead Budd Terrace. His experience and enthusiasm are a good fit for Emory Healthcare," said Peter A. Basler, Jr., chief operating officer, Wesley Woods Center and Emory‚s Center for Rehab Medicine. "We had more than 35 applicants for the position and interviewed some strong candidates. We wanted the best of the best for our residents and their families, and we feel like we found it in Ray."

Hayes sees his biggest challenge in balancing the high quality healthcare provided at Budd Terrace and the financial responsibilities associated with long term care. "The population is aging, and caring for older adults is a huge responsibility. Plus, as an industry we are seeing a significant shortage in healthcare workers that adds to the challenge," Hayes said. "And we need to attain a balance between this and the complicated financial responsibilities that an institution such as Budd Terrace faces on a daily basis."

Hayes has his work cut out for him. The number of people in Georgia over age 65 is growing at nearly twice the rate of the younger population, and the 85 plus age group is growing at nearly three times the rate of those under 65. "Facilities like Budd Terrace are more important now than ever," Hayes said.

Budd Terrace is a 250 bed skilled nursing home located on a 64 acre park like campus only a short distance from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
