American College of Cardiology Meeting In Atlanta March 18 – 20 Features Emory Cardiologists and Researchers

How does psychological stress increase the risk of heart disease? Should elective heart interventions be performed on an outpatient basis? What factors contribute to higher death rates of older diabetics undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery? There are some of the topics Emory Heart Center physicians will be on hand to discuss at The American College of Cardiology (ACC) 51st Annual Scientific Session, which begins this weekend in Atlanta.

Considered by many heart specialists to be the most comprehensive cardiovascular educational event of the year, the meeting will take place at the World Congress Center. Emory Heart Center physicians will play an important role leading symposiums and discussing new heart research. Extramural programs on March 16th and 17th will precede the official ACC meeting; the ACC's 51st Annual Scientific Session begins Monday, March 18th and continues through Wednesday, March 20th.

"We are excited the ACC is holding this important meeting in Atlanta, the home of Emory," says Douglas Morris, M.D., Director of the Emory Heart Center. "We welcome this exciting opportunity to meet with colleagues from all over the world to share information on the latest advances in cardiovascular medicine and to discuss clinical decision making skills."

Dr. Morris will lead the symposium "Controversies in Interventional Cardiology: Should Elective Coronary Interventions Be Outpatient Procedures" on Monday, March 18th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center ( Hall D).
