OLDER ADULTS NEEDED FOR EMORY STUDY OF NIGHTTIME INCONTINENCE

C A L E N D A R L I S T I N G:

Persons age 65 and older are invited to volunteer for a study of nocturia (increased nighttime urine production) being conducted at the Emory University School of Medicine.

Researchers are especially interested in recruiting minority adults and older persons who do not have bladder problems.

Emory experts in kidney diseases and geriatrics are seeking to better understand why many older people urinate more at night than during the day and they are developing treatments for this bothersome condition. The researchers hope to enroll 40 volunteers, half of whom have been diagnosed with nighttime incontinence or nocturia.

Qualified volunteers will be asked to eat a specially prepared high-protein diet for five days, to visit the Clinical Research Center (CRC) at Emory Unviersity Hospital for an outpatient appointment that will include a physical examination and a chest X-ray, then may be asked to schedule a three and a half day period during which they may be admitted to the CRC as an inpatient for careful testing and monitoring.

No experimental drugs or treatments will be involved. All tests and examinations will be provided at no charge and volunteers who complete the study will receive monetary compensation.

The CRC is located on the ground floor, H-wing, Emory University Hospital, 1364 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta.
