ST. JOHN'S WORT STUDY BEGINS AT EMORY; VOLUNTEERS WITH DEPRESSION NEEDED

Persons over 18 years of age with moderate to severe depression are being recruited by Emory psychiatry researchers for a federal study evaluating the use of the botanical product St. John's wort for treating depression.

Volunteers will be randomly chosen to take either St. John's wort, a placebo (sugar) pill or a conventional antidepressant for about six months. They will be asked to visit Emory's Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at least every few weeks during that time. All psychological testing and medication associated with the study will be provided at no cost.
