ADULTS WITH DIABETES SOUGHT FOR DIABETIC NEUROPATHY STUDY AT EMORY

Adults between ages 18 and 70 who have diabetes are being sought for participation in the Emory University arm of a national study testing an investigational drug for diabetic neuropathy a common complication of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms of diabetic neuropathy may include sharp pain, numbness, tingling or a loss of sensation in the feet or hands. Persons at increased risk for diabetes and hence, for diabetic neuropathy, include African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asians and Mexicans, smokers and persons over 40.

Eligible study participants will receive study-related medical care and medication at no cost. Volunteers who remain in the research study for two years will have the option of receiving an additional 12 months of free study medication.

Participation will involve about 20 visits over a two-year period to the Department of Neurology, The Emory Clinic, Building A, 1365 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta. Call (800) 283-7634 for information. Volunteers need not have been diagnosed yet with diabetic neuropathy to participate.
