WOMEN OVER 55 AT RISK FOR HEART DISEASE NEEDED FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDY

Women aged 55 and older are being recruited for participation in a large, international study co-chaired by Emory University cardiologist Nanette Kass Wenger, M.D.

The study will test the ability of an osteoporosis drug already on the market to possibly prevent coronary death and heart attack in postmenopausal women with coronary disease or at high risk for its occurrence.

Qualified participants should have or be at risk for heart disease and not have been on hormone replacement therapy for at least six months. They will be asked to visit The Emory Clinic, 1525 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta, every six months for about five to seven years. Once a year they will be examined by an Emory physician, receive an electrocardiogram (EKG), lab work, blood pressure check and other evaluations including a mammogram.

All exams, tests and medications associated with the study will be provided at no cost. Parking at the 1525 Building is convenient and will also be provided at no cost.

For information, call the RUTH research coordinator, Janice Parrott, R.N., at 404/778-RUTH.
