FREE LECTURES ON HEART, LUNG AND BLOOD RESEARCH ADVANCES WILL HIGHLIGHT NHLBI 50TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT

The 50th Anniversary of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) will be recognized at Emory University on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. with an evening-long series of lectures highlighting the great strides made in the last half century toward preventing and treating some of the most harrowing disorders affecting the heart, lung and blood.

WSB-TV medical correspondent and Emory cardiologist Dr. Randy Martin will host the event.

Physician-scientists will present mini medical lessons on the cardiovascular system, the pulmonary system and blood disorders, with emphasis on groundbreaking medical advances made in treating these organ systems. Patients with coronary artery disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia -- including some who have undergone heart, lung and bone marrow transplantation -- will share their powerful stories.

The event will take place in the auditorium of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Administration Building, 1440 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta. It is free and open to the public. Shuttle buses will be available from Emory's Michael Street Parking Deck. Call 404/ 727-5686.
