Building for the Future

At 1520 Clifton Road, a new building is under construction that will be home to the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. In this issue of Emory Nursing, you’ll read about our new home with a design that reflects the architectural vision of the original campus architect through arched doorways, large windows, and a red tile roof. The building will take full advantage of state-of-the-art technology and include dedicated research space. But more important than its physical structure, it will house the growing synergism of the School of Nursing, which is building a strong future in leadership, scholarship, and social responsibility.

Those themes occur throughout these pages. The profile of Dean Marla Salmon introduces you to a leader who brings her own rich history of scholarship and service to Emory. You will also find an article about collaborative research that seeks to improve adherence to regimens for taking antiretroviral medications as well as an overview of an interdisciplinary service project with a local high school that improves community health. These are just two of the many joint research and service efforts among faculty at the School of Nursing and other university schools and departments. The new building will enhance those collaborations with its proximity to the Rollins School of Public Health, the health sciences library, the biochemistry building, and the future site of a new biomedical research facility. It will open the doors for a strong future for Emory nurses.
